The street Via Portico d' Ottavia is the center of Jewish life in Rome. The Portico d' Ottavia is pictured.
On October 16, 1943, from this location, one-thousand Roman Jews were rounded up by Hitler's soldiers and taken to the gas chambers of Auschwitz.
Pictured is the main synagogue in Rome, Il Tempio (The Temple). The synagogue also incorporates the Museo d'Arte Ebraica.

In the Jewish Quarter of Rome is the Tortoise Fountain created by Taddeo Landini (1581-1584). The tortoises are attributed to Bernini and were added in 1658.
